An audio/photographic postcard of the Linzhao Farmer's Market in Sanlin Town, Pudong, Shanghai. While studying at NYU’s Shanghai campus, I was repeatedly drawn to this greenmarket — it reminded me of my home neighborhood of Chinatown in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, yet still felt foreign and unfamiliar in ways, and I really appreciated its unpretentious bustling energy and the multigenerational communities I observed. This project evolved out of the prompt to make an "audio map" of a location, and it combines my interests in street photography, field recording, and interactive media art. Using vertical scroll to navigate, as well as the visual metaphor of a train or subway journey, the user can experience the sights and sounds of this market in Sanlin over a single 12-hour period.
Sanlin Market was exhibited as an installation at the NYU Interactive Media Arts Low-Residency master's program final show in Shanghai in 2025.
This project was built with React, Typescript, Howler.js, Vite, and Framer Motion. It incorporates my own photography, field recordings, and written observations.
